Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMG)

The purpose of HMGP is to help communities implement hazard mitigation measures following a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration in the areas of the state, tribe, or territory requested by the Governor or Tribal Executive. The key purpose of this grant program is to enact mitigation measures that reduce the risk of loss of life and property from future disasters.

The amount of HMGP funding available to the Applicant is based on the estimated total Federal assistance

Eligible Applicants

In general, individuals, businesses and private nonprofits via local governments, can apply for HMGP funding. Individuals may not apply directly for HMGP funding, but may be sponsored through an appropriate subapplicant via a local government, state agency, tribe or tribal agency, or private nonprofit. Applications are submitted to the state, eligible tribe, or territory, which receives HMGP funds from FEMA
